A celebration of 25 years of service occurred in May of 2007 in the courtyard of the Kitchen at 205 Mora Street in Santa Cruz. Father Peter Carota, a former Santa Cruz realtor who founded the center, said Mass for the gathering of volunteers, donors and members of the St. Francis Catholic Kitchen Board of Directors. A simple meal of salad, soup and bread followed the Mass. .
Just as volunteers do every weekday--vegetables were washed, chopped and prepared to create soup and salad for the meal. The Board of Director of the Kitchen ladled the soup and handed out bread and salad. Thank you all who came to celebrate an amazing 25 years of service.
On July 5, 2007 our local representative to Congress, Sam Farr, read into the Congressional Record a statement of recognition of the achievements of the Kitchen.
