VOLUNTEERS and DONORS

The Soup Kitchen continues to exist because of our generous donors and the kind volunteers that come to help out. Food preparation usually starts about 8:30 in the morning.

There is a day cook but he needs the help of a contingency of "choppers" who chop up the vegetables for the soup and salad.

The tables are set - each with its own bouquet of flowers. At 11:00, the volunteers get together to have lunch and taste the offerings for the day. If YOU are interested, there are a number of ways you can help out.

  1. You can volunteer at the Kitchen itself. There are jobs for:
    • food preparers
    • wait persons
    • someone to ladle the soup
    • someone to hand out the salad
    • someone to bus dishes
    • people to wash and dry dishes.

The volunteers have a lot of fun, and for some of us, it is our social outlet. If you are interested, you can call Ellen Campanella at 459-6712 or just show up at the Soup Kitchen any morning Monday through Friday.

  2. If you would like to help out financially, checks can be made out to St. Francis Soup Kitchen and mailed to:
      St. Francis Soup Kitchen
      205 Mora Street
      Santa Cruz, CA 95060

  3. You can donate items for the Clothing Room: socks, towels, rain ponchos, blankets, toiletry items, shoes, jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, coats, etc.

  4. If nothing else, keep us in your prayers as we continue to help the poor and homeless in our area.

  5. We are also currently looking for a director for Jesus, Mary, Joseph Home for the Homeless. The job pays room and board and a small stipend.
